PurePoint Energy and the Students of Green Light Academy

On Thursday, July 30, 2009, Mr. Tom Wemyss, Business Developer and Vice President of PurePoint Energy LLC, took time to speak with high school students at Green Light Academy at Penfield Lighthouse.

Green Light Academy is a summer program made possible by Beacon Preservation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of lighthouses and their environments for educational, cultural, recreational, and historical preservation purposes.

The students are taught a “green” curriculum that challenges them to explore renewable energy sources including wind, solar, and tidal current. Mr. Wemyss mainly covered wind energy, and drew substantial interest and engagement from the students of Green Light Academy.

PurePoint Energy will be installing two small wind turbines at Penfield Lighthouse in Fairfield, CT. In short, this was a positive experience and a step towards the right direction for PurePoint Energy, Beacon Preservation, and the students of Green Light Academy.

PurePoint Energy and Positive Environmental Leadership

The PurePoint Energy Mission Statement expresses our genuine value on positive environmental leadership. We are ardent supporters of the Green Movement and are constantly working to meet and exceed all commitments with impeccable attention to detail.

PurePoint Energy is currently working on two notable projects:

Haiti

We are currently installing a 2kW off-grid, photovoltaic system in the mountains of Haiti for Mr. and Mrs. John Currelly. The Currelly household currently has no access to electricity. PurePoint Energy is working to help them maintain a standard lifestyle while preserving the beautiful landscapes of Haiti.

Shevlin, Minnesota

PurePoint Energy has partnered with Alternity Wind Power to develop a 100 megawatt wind project. We are currently collecting wind data, interconnection permitting, and identifying potential off-takers for the wind energy. Currently, 10+ landowners have signed on in belief that this project will benefit the town without changing the purpose of the land.

Nanosolar Solar Power Technology

Nanosolar Inc is a developer of solar power technology. Their main product is sold at $1 per watt, which is one fifth the price of silicon cells.

Nanosolar technology uses copper indium gallium diselenide, which achieves up to 19.9% efficiency in laboratory samples. Combined with other factors, Nanosolar Technology successfully blends the needs for efficiency, low cost, and longevity. In addition, Nanosolar is light weight and easy to install.

Estimates by Nanosolar Inc indicates panel costs to be between 1/10th and 1/5th the industry standard per kilowatt. The state of the art panels are also projected to have an incredibly long lifespan and come with a 25 year warranty.
